October 2010

My papaw passed away early this morning in his sleep.  We had known this was inevitable for a while now.  My heart hurts.  It hurts even more for my dad. But probably hurts the most for my mamaw.  She knows no other way of life than to be with my papaw. They were married for 71 years.

I just ask you guys keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve the loss of this wonderful man who we all loved dearly. I know there has been a lot of heartache for a lot of people this week.  This is a season for the cycle of life, living and losing, but also being born and healing and love.

Thanks ya’ll.

AHH i love your white tattoo! i have one on my wrist but it is totally buggered up because the artist didn't know what he was doing. did your artist use a stencil? how did you get it to come out so clean and perfect?? it looks amazing!

I know exactly what you are talking about.  The key is to go to an artist who has specifically done white tattoos before. The guy I went to had done a few, but a lot of shops don’t do them, so ask first. Also, they had multiple kinds of white ink, and picked a kind they thought would show up the best.  He made a stencil from my handwriting, so yea he did use that as a go-by.  If you find a shop that does white ink tattoos and has experience, they may can go over yours and help the look of it. Good luck!

You really have awesome bangs, I envy them, ok I"ll be honest, I'm super jealous of them, I had mine cut like this earlier in the year, they were so much work!! Just wanted to make you aware of my jealousy towards your bangs :D Maybe you could share tips on how you just make them stay and all that stuff lol! Thanks!

First off, thank you!

To tell the truth, I have problems with mine too.  Namely because I have not 1, but 2 cowlicks in my bang area!  2!!!  So basically I have horns.  But seriously, I have had the bangs cut really thick (so they lay down more), and I always blow dry them (straight down) right after I wash my hair. That tends to keep them tamed til I wash them again. I don’t ever flat iron them bc it makes em look greasy.   Hope that helps!

First of all, AWESOME pumpkin!! I would have never thought to do that but I may have to try this year! Second, I don't know if I told you this already but you can use the dremmel to cut Roman's nails! My dogs despise the nail clipper but the dremmel is so quick that they don't even mind it one bit!

Thank you! And thanks for the tip!

Roman’s previous owners let his nails get WAY too long (the quicks are grown out too), so I am in the process of letting professionals cut them gradually to where they should be. But once they get to the normal length, I will def use the dremel!  Multiple usages!

I want to see the pumpkin! Also, can you give me some tips on carving with a dremel?

ok, I’ll post a pic of it when we are done :)  Just a fair warning…it’s a seriously nerdy subject matter….for which I will blame Patrick :) heehee.

Tips- hmmm…..let’s see.

1. Well, it makes a nasty mess with lil pieces of pumpkin (juicy ones too) everywhere, so spread out some newspaper or do it outside. (Also, keep a rag to wipe the surface with.)  It was all in my hair, which could be good for split ends; the verdict is still out….

2. Buy different tips for the dremel. We made the mistake of just using one size for most of the carving, and it takes away from the detail. We needed a finer point for some things.

3. If you are going to gut the pumpkin and light it, you have to dremel much deeper than you would think for it to show up. But if you are just going to dremel on surface for decoration and not light up the inside, then you can do it as little or as much deep as you want.

I think that’s all I’ve got for now! I did another one where we didn’t gut the pumpkin, and I just etched leaves on it, so I can post that pic too. Good luck! You are artsy, so I know whatever you do will be crazy good!

I posted a video post last night! I got the idea from you, I think it would be amazing to hear everyone's voice!

awesomeness! I agree. It’s fun to put a voice with a face!  I noticed you are heading to Africa… I’m putting you in touch with one of my best buds, Hannah, who has been there for over a year. Feel free to contact her, ask her questions, etc bc she rocks.  And she reads my blog, so hey Hannah, you might get an email from Rebeka. There. Now she knows :)

Thank you for the heads up on the video! Love!
