All the good Christians (A rant)

All the good Christians are standing in line at Chickfila today.

Seeing the lines at the local Chickfilas made me absolutely outraged. So outraged that I must blog about it :) If this whole thing was about freedom of speech, that’s one thing. But it’s not. It’s certainly not about that here in the Bible Belt. I saw hundreds of smug faces as they waltzed out of the local Chickfila today.

Dear Christians of the world,

(this rant is not about Chickfila. They can do as they like. It’s about Christians spewing undeserved self-righteousness.) Do you think supporting anti gay marriage institutions makes God proud? What does it accomplish? Does it just make you feel warm and fuzzy and righteous inside to impose your own judgment onto someone else?

Supporting the ban of gay marriage makes you look HATEFUL. And judgmental. Period. Neither of which are things that create a positive environment. It creates hostility. And the thing is, I am pretty sure that a few of the greatest Biblical teachings say to love your neighbor as yourself and to go out and make disciples. How does standing up for outlawing gay marriage make you as a Christian, seem appealing to those who do not know anything about Christianity???

It doesn’t. It’s a prime example of why people aren’t beating down the doors of churches to get in… and why people love to hate on Christians so much. You don’t make yourselves seem very loveable.

And you certainly aren’t spreading God’s love. Not one bit.

And if that wasn’t enough to make you start thinking…try this.

The most used verses to attack homosexuals are the ones from Leviticus. That along with not eating pork or shellfish, and a ton of other things that Christians do now were all outlawed in the old law from the Old Testament. Later the old law was put aside per the books of the New Testament and in most of Paul’s writings.

If you are going to quote Leviticus and speak out against gays, then you also need to start obeying by every word of it. Start stoning people in the streets for stealing, not being virgins, etc. Also start killing baby calfs and birds and sacrificing them. Follow it word for word, and see how that pans out for you.

So all in all, dear Bible quoters, the Bible does not single out homosexuality and certainly does not call it worse of a sin than lying, committing adultery, or being a drunk. (I’d be willing to bet good money that a very large percentage of the people in line today have told lies, are addicted to alcohol or porn or are cheating on their spouses, or neglect their children, and the list goes on.)

Get your heads out of the sand. Read your Bible. Don’t just follow blindly.

Spread love. Not hate. How will gay marriage affect your life? Probably not one bit, (save for a likely positive affect on the economy as already witnessed in the states who have legalized it.)

“Christians should be neither pro-gay or anti-gay, because although God hates sin, he still LOVES the sinners.”

And if you want to follow in His footsteps, I suggest you love them too. Stop judging.
