We have a barn door!!!! (It’s not really a barn door. It’s just an old door on a track, but that’s what everyone is calling them.)
After wanting one for so long….we were at an antique mall this past weekend, and found this door for $75.00 so we snatched it up. I love that it’s weathered and worn and has empty windows up top. (Makes the house feel more open even when the door is closed, which is awesome bc our house is tee-tiny!)
After finding this tutorial on how to do it more cheaply than just buying a really pricey barn door sliding kit, Patrick put it all together. We took off the old exsisting hardware on the door and sprayed it to match the sliding track. We added the old school looking handle as well. (all supplies came from Lowes.)
All that he has left is to put a guide on the bottom. Whoot! I love how it turned out!
(sorry for the iphone pic. That’s all I got right now. Oh also, don’t mind the messy bedroom in the background either. lol)
ps. Insider tip- use a stud finder- esp if you have an old house. Our studs were not 16” apart like they should be. They were at random intervals. You don’t want your door falling off the wall :)

Gold Leaf nails.
I saw this Kara Ross ad (top photo) and decided I MUST try that.
So here’s how I did it:
1. I took a few pinches of the gold leaf flakes (I got mine from Hobby Lobby, and they are this brand.) and put them in a small bowl. Then I broke them up more so they were smaller flakes.
2. Then I painted one coat of a quick dry clear coat onto one nail at a time and dipped that nail into the flakes. This worked pretty much every time to make a random look to each nail. I suppose if you wanted to be really anal about it, you could grab the tweezers and place each flake on the nail :)
3. I pushed the flakes down into the polish to “set” them. (One nail at a time)
4. Once I did all of my nails, I put about 5 or 6 coats of a high gloss top coat on it.
*I just did this last night, so I have no idea how long it will last, but hopefully pretty well since I have a ton of coats on it!

So I finally got around to making this toothbrush holder idea I saw on pinterest. (After our toothbrushes have been sitting on the windowsill in the bathroom for well, a year I guess. ha)
Materials:
mason jar- We’ve had this one, but found it at a community yard sale for around $5
wooden plaque - walmart under $5. I spray painted it brown and sealed it. (one day I might get bored and paint a design on it, but I like the simplicity for now.)
hose clamp to tighten around the jar- walmart under $4
nail- or staple type of nail to fix the clamp to the plaque.-cheap(hardware store)
picture hanging kit- cheap (Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc)

Pinterest inspires craft time. But only if it’s easy. Haha. (Burlap wrapped around a candle with some fabric and lace and burlap remnants pinned on it. )
Dazzle with a tassel… everybody is doing it! We adore to adorn dangly accents from curtains to coats. This season, tassels are popping up all over the place. Burberry’s big and bold tassels throughout their Fall/Winter 2011 Collection, inspired a DIY that is to DIE for. From their boots to their bags, we’re utterly taken by their stunning and rich leather tassels.
It’s on: to make bold tassels reach for a leather-like material. Cut 2 rectangle pieces approx. 16” x 6” inches. Use a marker and a ruler to draw straight lines, which will transform into future fringe. Leave a 1” inch space from the top and mark lines spaced 1/4” inch from from each other. Use fabric scissors to cut the leather. Once cut, glue the cord to the inside of the fringed fabric on one end. P.S.- make sure to glue on the inside, not the outside of material. Continue to glue and roll the fringe and cord together. Hold in place for a few seconds until the glue sets. Once rolled to the end, either tie tassels onto a bag handle or use a super strong tape to secure on the inside of the bag. P.S.- You can remove tassels and tie onto just about anything and everything in your closet or home. Get creative. Take the plunge and take to the tassel!

Here is the earring holder I made from one of the yard sale frames (the 8x10) and burlap sack.
All I did was spray paint the frame, cut the cork board to fit the frame, pin and super glue the burlap to the cork board, and stick it in the frame. Easy peasy.
Of course if you have a ton of earrings, you are gonna need a bigger frame. And the mirror beside the frame is also something I found at a yard sale a while back. I covered and taped off the mirror with painters tape, and sprayed it the same color as the frame.
Sorry for the craptastic photos. But you get the idea. :)

Yard sale frames. I got all three for about $4. Which is an amazing deal because even at the flippin dollar store, the nicer 5x7 frames are $6-10 a piece. And these were nice frames (not dollar store brand :)
Here’s the before and after on the 5x7’s. Just a lil bit of spray paint and spray gloss sealer, and they look brand new!
The larger frame on the bottom (8x10)…I made into an earring holder by backing it with some burlap that I also got at the yard sale. I’ll take a nice photo of it once I get it all set up :)

Cheapy lamp makeover.
White spray paint (around $4.00) + fabric ($1.50 a yard at Walmart) = Under $6 for the total.
And I am sure you can find a lovely lamp like this 70s beauty at any thrift store for cheap cheap as well. We had it at work in an old closet. lol

Guest room- lookin super cute these days. whoot! The “curtain” is the backdrop from our wedding. Had to use it somewhere!
Oh and on the table, there are two of the bridesmaids’ bouquets. Two of the girls left em at my house after the wedding, so I used them as well!
The bed is two twins stacked on a box springs. They can be moved easily to adjust to different guests or different rooms.
